Alberta has signed on to a deal with the federal government that will see the provinces receive 75 per cent of the expected $400 million in revenue from Ottawa’s planned excise tax on legal recreational cannabis.
The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission will charge a markup, as well as a provincial tax, on marijuana sold in the province once it is officially legalized.
While projections are hazy at this time for what that could mean for revenue for the provinicial government, they are optimistic that Alberta will see a considerable boost as a result of marijuana legalization.
